SPECTACLES
Following an eye examination
you may be prescribed spectacles. At D.A.Seaman, fully qualified Dispensing
Opticians are always present to discuss your requirements. It is
important that you are made aware of the many options in lens design and new
technologies which are available today. There may be particular needs
concerning your working
Plastic or glass lenses? Traditionally spectacle lenses were made of glass, however, although durable they were sometimes heavyweight particularly in the higher prescription and could be smashed if knocked or dropped. Today, practically all lenses are made of plastic. They are light in weight, safer due to their impact resistance and can be made in photochromic (light sensitive) material. Although the material is softer, hard coatings have been developed to achieve higher durability,
To tint or not to tint? Tints of all colours and densities can be applied to spectacle lenses. Light tints may reduce the glare of harsh office lighting, whilst dark tints protect against strong sunlight. The incorporation of a UV filter ensures the wearer is adequately protected against harmful UV. Most photochromatic lenses are light sensitive plastics, which react quickly to changing light conditions, ideal for the indoor/outdoor lifestyle, and are 100% UV safe.
Thinner, lightweight lenses Even if you have a high prescription, your lenses can be improved by using today's advanced lens technology to reduce the thickness and weight. High index materials in both plastic and glass, aspheric designs and anti-reflection coatings will all add to comfort and enhance cosmetic appearance and visual performance.
Single vision/Multifocal lenses The choice between two pairs of spectacles, one for distance and one for reading, a bifocal, or progressive power (varifocal) lens is sometimes complex. The job of our qualified Dispensing Opticians is to help you make that choice by giving advice and explaining the benefits of each scenario. Tell us about your work, lifestyle or hobbies, and we will be able to find the solution best suited to your needs.
Frames Our range of frames has been carefully selected to include the modern designer ranges as well as the more traditional look. Rimless spectacles, hypoallergenic lightweight titanium metals and bold colourful plastics will all be found on display. It is difficult to quote a cost of spectacles as there is so much choice in frames and lenses, however spectacle prices start from £79.95 for a complete pair with single vision lenses. We can suit all tastes and budgets, the choice is yours. Do remember that the EYEPLAN scheme can significantly reduce the cost of your spectacles.
Smart Mirror Choosing new spectacles can be difficult, especially if we find it hard to see without them! Here at D.A. Seaman we have our Smart Mirror to help you choose. Together with our qualified Dispensing Opticians, the smart mirror enables you to take up to four pictures wearing different frames. Then wearing your current spectacles you can view the pictures either side by side or one at a time, allowing you to compare the frames yourself. We can take pictures from different angles to show you how the frames look from different views. It means that you are much more in control of the way your new spectacles will look.
Production of your spectacles. At D.A. Seaman, we do not offer a one hour service!. The production of spectacles has to be accurate and made within certain British Standard tolerances. Quality takes time. Our main supplier, Rodenstock UK, has recently invested £3,000,000 in the most advanced robotic machinery and thus provides us with high quality products and a reliable service. This practice employs a computerised "Speedmaster" system, developed by Rodenstock for fast and efficient electronic ordering. Frames are electronically scanned by a Tracer at the practice, prescription details and facial measurements are entered, and the complete order is transmitted over the internet to Rodenstock's laboratory in Kent. The system has two major advantages, firstly the order is directly entered into Rodenstock's computer system, so saving time in posting written orders and frames. Secondly, if you wish to reglaze your own frame, you can keep your frame whilst the lenses are being made, they arrive at the practice cut, shaped and edged, ready to fit into your frame while you wait. (Excluding rimless and supra styles which need to be sent off). To find out more about Rodenstock visit www.rodenstock.co.uk
